Emmanuel Macron promises the thermal renovation of 40,000 schools within ten years

It is an essential and gargantuan project that the President of the Republic promises. Emmanuel Macron announced on Tuesday the release in 2024 of 500 million euros from the green fund for the energy renovation of schools, with the objective of adapting more than 40,000 schools to global warming within ten years.

“Our objective is within ten years to be able to renovate 40,000-44,000 schools in this way, and therefore to support municipalities, departments, regions, depending on the level, in this work” which will also be based on a project educational, assured the Head of State during a visit to the Daniel Argote college in Orthez (Pyrénées-Atlantiques).

50 million m2

A major renovation plan for the 49,000 schools in France, or 50 million m2, was launched on May 9 by the government, while only 10% to 15% of the stock has been thermally renovated. This project is valued at 40 billion euros to achieve the objective of reducing energy consumption by 40% by 2030.

Announced a year ago, the green fund, amounting to two billion euros, aims to help local authorities for the financing of projects in the fields of environmental performance, adaptation of the territory to climate change and improving the living environment. The government has already dipped into it for the fight against forest fires or low emission zones. The school renovation program also benefits from the aid of the Banque des Territoires, which has pledged to lend two billion euros for works by 2027.
