Costume films succeed at Emma Mackey, discovered thanks to the series Sex Education. Hardly had we left it in eiffel by Martin Bourboulon and Death on the Nile by Kenneth Branagh that here she is back in the title role ofEmily by Frances O’Connor. It embodies Emily Bronte (1818-1848), author of Stormwind Heights, in this biopic which makes apprehend the creative process of the novelist.

The three Bronte sisters lived under the same roof in the countryside and produced literary masterpieces. »Charlotte and Jane EyreAnne and La Lady of Wildfell Hall Manor have also made an impression, but this film focuses on Emily, a young homebody who has drawn on her imagination to write a dark, romantic and fantastic book.
The path of creation
Between a cultured father and a brother victim of terrible addictions, Emily finds the path of literary creation in a world where women often have to sign their works under male pseudonyms before they can make themselves (re)known. “Emily’s life was not easy, but that’s where she learned to use her imagination,” insists Emma Mackey. She probably wouldn’t have written The Wuthering Heights if she had lived in different circumstances. »
Emma Mackey brings a deep sensitivity to this character from another time that she manages to make current. She then radically changed register to discover another more colorful world, that of Barbie by Greta Erwig, where she will play a character still kept secret from July 19.
