Emergency aid of 600 euros for victims implemented on December 1

Financial assistance for victims of domestic violence. This sum paid urgently by the Family Allowance Funds (CAF) to allow victims to leave their homes was adopted in February by Parliament. The Minister of Solidarity Aurore Bergé clarified this Monday that it will be implemented on December 1st.

“From December 1, we will generalize what was voted in the Assembly which is emergency aid,” declared Aurore Bergé on France Inter. In all CAFs in France, a victim of domestic violence “can request emergency aid which will be automatically paid to them,” she added. “It’s not just financial aid, it’s also being accompanied, being supported” to “guarantee that the departure is a real departure”.

Aid of 600 euros on average

At the Ministry of Solidarity, it is specified that this emergency aid will be “on average 600 euros”, with a minimum of 243 euros, an amount which will vary depending on resources and the number of children. This payment will be made in one go.

A woman victim of domestic violence, from December 1, “she calls her CAF, she goes to her CAF, she goes to the CAF website, and she will have access to help within three to five days maximum urgently,” she said.

Asked about possible difficulties in contacting the CAF, Aurore Bergé stressed that “there are agents who are fortunately competent and efficient” in the CAF and that “there are different ways to contact the CAF, there are there’s calling them, there’s going there, there’s going on the Internet.” “Moreover, we are increasing the number of people in the CAFs so that there is a much more human welcome too and so that we finally have someone at the end of the line, someone behind a counter, someone one that accompanies,” she continued.

Nearly 244,300 victims of domestic violence

Parliament adopted a text in February establishing this emergency financial aid to allow victims to leave their homes to seek shelter, to come into force “no later than nine months after its promulgation”.

Nearly 244,300 victims of domestic violence, the vast majority women, were recorded by the police in France in 2022, an increase of 15% compared to 2021, interpreted by associations as a sign of better taking their words into account.
