A girl is said to have been held by a person wearing a black cloth mask, but then fled into a forest. The search remains unsuccessful. Now it turns out: the witness probably made it up.

After a large police presence on Monday Dresden was looking for a supposedly kidnapped girl, a witness admitted to lying. “During the investigation, doubts arose about the whistleblower’s statements. Ultimately, the woman admitted that the facts she described were not true,” the police said on Monday evening. It is being examined whether an investigation will be initiated against the 35-year-old, it said.

According to the information, the passerby made an emergency call on Monday morning. She stated that she observed a child being harassed by an unknown person. The woman also stated that the elementary school-aged girl was able to break away and fled into a smaller area of forest. The perpetrator ran after her. Until the early evening, around 180 riot police officers combed the forest to get information about the whereabouts of the two.

Last week, a twelve-year-old girl was harassed by an unknown man in Dresden. He had dragged the girl into a forest. According to police information on Monday evening, the investigation into this case is continuing. The officers are looking for the perpetrator. He was dressed in black, was around 1.85 meters tall and was wearing a black fabric mask.
