Elon Musk says he wants to use Twitter to restore freedom of expression. But what does that even mean in these times? In any case, those who understand this as hate, agitation and lies are rejoicing.

Elon Musk has had an account on Twitter since June 2009. In the month, many came to the short message service, which has existed since March 2006. The “Twitter Revolution” had begun in Iran. Presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi had cast doubt on the election result, which declared incumbent President and fundamentalist Mahmoud Ahmadinejad the winner. Up to three million Iranians took part in the protests. Many organized via Twitter and other social media. There they also exchanged hacker programs with which they paralyzed government websites. Many also communicated in English so the rest of the world could see what was happening in the country. Suddenly the promise of salvation of the internet seemed to be fulfilled, that this worldwide network with new tools like Twitter would become a motor for democracy and freedom.
