Economics Minister Robert Habeck has announced a special regulation for owners of heat pumps with the planned electricity price brake. Habeck said after a “heat pump summit” that a special consideration should be created for heat pumps that were installed in 2022. The logic of the electricity price brake is that there is a state-subsidized quota based on the reference year 2021. “However, if you have installed a heat pump, i.e. saved gas and used more electricity accordingly, then you would be punished according to the logic for the political actually desired behavior – namely away from fossil fuels.” Therefore there will be a special rule that takes this into account.
