In an interview about the new TV series “The Gamblers”, Eko Fresh reveals what makes him happy and what he would spend a million for.

Rapper and actor Eko Fresh (38, “But”) can finally be seen on television again after the cult format “Blockbustaz” (2014-2017). In the six-part TV series “Die Glücksspieler” (April 27/May 4/May 11, 8:15 p.m., the first), he plays Firat Bozoklu, who, together with Ines Schickling (Katharina Schüttler, 42) and Jasper Lipp (Manuel Rubey , 43) is playing for one million euros. The generous initiator of the game is the rich Gottlieb Herzinger (Branko Samarovski, 82), who wants to do something useful with his money. His offer: if the three try to be happier for a year, each of them gets a million – no matter how things go. The gamblers accept the offer on Herzinger’s terms… So much for the plot.

In an interview with the news agency spot on news, Eko Fresh explains what the Cologne artist would do with one million euros. Among other things, he also reveals the romantic plans for the future with his wife, musician Sarah Bora.

According to which criteria do you generally select your acting projects and what appealed to you most about “The Gamblers”?

Eko Fresh: The role of Firat was a big challenge for me because it has nothing to do with rap. So far, almost every role I’ve played has had something to do with music, directly or indirectly. Also, the cast of “The Gamblers” is so mature and brilliant, it was a pleasure to be a part of it. In general, I choose my roles according to many criteria – one important one is whether it develops me as an actor.

In the series, a multi-millionaire offers millions if the three protagonists strive to “live a happier life for a year”. That sounds easy, but it is obviously difficult. What is so difficult about being happy for your character?

Fresh: Firat initially thinks he’s happy after all and that playing the game is just a formality. However, the longer the game lasts, the more it turns out that there are deep chasms between him and his happiness. I don’t want to spoil any more…

And what would you consider to be major obstacles to happiness in real life?

Fresh: I have found in real life what makes me happier and that is my little family. One of my goals is to spend even more quality time with them.

Where have you been really lucky in life, privately and professionally?

Fresh: I’ve generally been very lucky in life. I attract happiness because I’m always smiling. I have fulfilled many dreams professionally, but also privately. We just moved into our new house. In August, for example, I’m going to marry my wife again, I couldn’t have dreamed of all that.

Director and co-author Michael Hofmann wrote in the press release about the fleetingness of relationship happiness, among other things: “… the money has to be earned, everyday life with children has to be mastered and you gradually mutate into a kind of foster community…” – They are since 2016 also father and husband. What do you think is important so that a love does not end in a “rearing community”? How do you and your wife keep your partnership alive?

Fresh: I think sometimes you have to take time out and treat yourself to something. We also go out for a couple’s weekend and support each other professionally where we can. And communication is key. If you don’t talk to each other properly anymore, it may already be too late.

What would you most like to do with a gift of one million?

Fresh: I would donate part and then go on a big trip around the world with my loved ones. In beautiful countries with good food and great places.

What was particularly funny about the shooting?

Fresh: I just had a great time with Manuel Rubey and Katharina Schüttler. Director Michael Hofmann also has a great sense of humor and we sometimes couldn’t get ourselves to grips with the dialogues. We really laughed a lot. I also found it particularly remarkable that it was the first major production since the lockdown.

Do you have any souvenirs from your acting projects?

Fresh: From time to time you can take something with you. I picked up one of Firat’s wool sweaters this time. They looked so cozy and Christmassy. Just like a real daddy.

What can your fans look forward to next professionally with you?

Fresh: New music will definitely come again. I also played in the remake of “Pumuckl”. I’m looking forward to watching this with my son.

Would a new “Blockbustaz” season be conceivable?

Fresh: I really wouldn’t have liked anything more than that, but I think the project is done. The station wanted to go in a different direction. It’s a shame, because it really was a cult. I would also have liked to have done a season knowing it would be the last. Then you could have finished with it internally. But that’s just how it is sometimes in life, “Blockbustaz” was a great school for me and I was actually able to learn everything that is useful to me on the set today.
