Eight romantic restaurants for a date in Munich – Munich

L’Address 37

“Je t’aime, mon amour”: Aren’t these the words you want to hear? However, if your partner doesn’t speak French, you still have the option of eating out with a Frenchman. For a rendezvous or a tête-à-tête, L’Address 37 in the Westend is a good place to go. And speaking of clichés: Loïc Cantegrel, the owner and chef de cuisine, likes to greet his guests with kisses and sometimes sings loudly in the restaurant – although not chansons. Of course he comes from Paris, exactly, the city of love!

The “bistro néo français” offers classic French cuisine with a modern twist. The (not without controversy) delicacy “foie gras,” for example, stuffed goose liver, is refined here with pineapple and chili. The main course is beef shoulder in red wine sauce. It gets exciting when you get a seat at the open show kitchen.

L’Address 37, Tulbeckstraße 9, 80339 Munich, telephone: 089/62232119, Monday to Sunday 6 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., www.ladresse37.de

Soy

Combining the culinary preferences of two people is sometimes not that easy. Soy, which opened last year, is a relationship kitter for couples, only half of whom are vegan, because that half has a huge selection here. The other is, at best, amazed at what can be done with purely vegan ingredients. Two people who eat a plant-based diet will be happy at Soy anyway, and the trip is also interesting for “everything eater” couples: At Soy, they cook Vietnamese food, but without animal products. Even the typical fish sauce is left out. How hearty and hearty some dishes can still taste is worth experiencing. The menu offers a large selection of tapas: For example, a filled Vietnamese “pancake” or tofu and seitan wrapped in betel leaves. The ambience at Soy is nice; shimmering upholstered armchairs, an elegantly curved room divider made of wooden sticks and large plants in the windows. As final proof that vegan doesn’t mean joyless, look no further than the cocktail menu after dinner – with which the lovely evening can be extended for a while.

Soy, Theresienstraße 93, 80333 Munich, Telephone: 089/54540886, Monday to Friday 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday to Saturday 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Sunday 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., soy-muenchen.com

Mona

How many Munich couples have already traveled through Italy together, or rather, how many haven’t? There is hardly anything nicer than traveling together, but according to the motto “Why travel far away when the good things are so close”, in this case even closer than Italy, the Mona is a nice place for a date evening Idea. If you take the right staircase from the Rosenheimer Platz S-Bahn station, namely the one to the Hilton Munich City, you are almost at the door. Once you have taken a seat in the chicly styled room with the open black kitchen, the culinary journey that Mona takes from Monaco to Napoli begins.

Of course, you shouldn’t just imagine everything on the menu from roast pork to spaghetti. The kitchen knows its craft, implements the theme creatively and places a particular focus on fermenting food. The decoratively preserved lemons in jars scattered across the shelves of the open kitchen are an indication of this. Variation of lamb, smoked peppers, artichokes and figs; Sea bass, quince, chervil root and nut butter are the main courses (28 to 32 euros). There is also a grill menu and of course a selection of fine pasta creations should not be missing. Where does the creamy chocolate tart on the dessert menu come from? In any case, it takes you into other spheres. Almost as nice as a trip to Italy together.

Mona, Rosenheimer Straße 15, 81677 Munich, daily from 6.30 a.m. to 1 a.m., telephone: 089/44249500, mona-restaurant.de

Mural

The Mural is the casual version of fine dining, just crowned with 15 points in the Gault Millau – and with two chefs who are under 25 years old. It is located in the Muca street art museum, and consequently the restaurant also has a casual, urban look with a large mural. There are no starched tablecloths and gentle Eros Ramazzotti sprinkling. If you’re looking for this kind of romance, you’ve come to the wrong place. In the Mural, on the other hand, you can enjoy the creations from the kitchen together, which are served in the form of five to seven-course menus and look like small works of art. Guests can also taste exciting wines recommended by the sommelier. Enjoying together, you can’t do that often enough.

You should make a reservation at Mural in good time because the Gault Millau mention has put the restaurant on many people’s “must try” list. The menu prices are between 89 and 129 euros.

Apla’funky

In the small Greek restaurant it starts with the fact that the rectangular tables don’t offer much space. So you’re forced to sit quite close to each other, and the limited space makes it tempting to share the dishes. The intimate atmosphere is fueled by the many candles, which bathe the otherwise rather spartan restaurant in an atmospheric light in the evening. It is downright dangerous to go to Apla’funky as a non-couple, because the waiter automatically assumes that a man and a woman sitting at the same table must be a married couple. “The same wine for your wife,” he then asks the lady at the table who is playing the game, even if the gentleman opposite is just a good friend. As a couple – whether married or not – you should feel even better looked after.

The menu reads unusually for a Greek restaurant, you will find modern variations on the tried and tested classics, such as beetroot tzatziki, feta mash with peppers or split pea puree with foamed passion fruit and brittle nuts. That makes you want more.

Apla’funky, Buttermelcherstraße 21, 80469 Munich, telephone: 089/23788188, Monday to Saturday 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., aplafunky.de

Jaadin

Even if you no longer have to impress your partner after a certain time, you can still do that. A restaurant that looks impressive as soon as you enter is the Vietnamese restaurant Jaadin in the new Schwabinger Tor district on Leopoldstrasse. Meter-high, deep red walls, floral wallpaper, fine granite stone, ensembles of bamboo lamps and bright neon lettering. Here the eye has something to look at and marvel at.

It’s also nice that the food works according to the sharing principle. This means: The food is shared, your food is my food. Practical for couples where one of them likes to steal something from the other’s plate. So together you order a handful or – depending on how hungry you are – a dozen small portions of Vietnamese specialties. There are summer rolls with red prawns, papaya salad with tofu, mango salad, avocado salad, squid salad, minced beef in betel leaf… When the bill comes at the end, it may show how great the love really is. Or: You share here too.

Jaadin Grillhouse, Leopoldstraße 158, 80804 Munich, telephone: 089/998241950, Sunday to Friday 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday 6 p.m. to midnight, www.jaadin.de

Goldmarie doesn’t appear pompous, but quite simple. Cream-colored walls, simple wooden furniture, chalkboards with the dishes written on them and a few candles. Nothing more is needed here to create a homely feeling. In the restaurant you can see people of all ages chatting animatedly. There are also smiling waiters balancing plates around the store without any hassle. Everything is so beautiful and harmonious, you could get the feeling that this place was a film set.

The wonderful Goldmarie in the Isarvorstadt is actually suitable for every occasion, but especially for a nice evening. And you don’t have to be a gourmet to feel at home here. The dishes, like the interior, are quite simple, but always have a certain something and taste excellent. The menu changes almost daily, so it’s good for surprises. What’s always there: South Tyrolean cheese dumplings, roast pork and pancakes.

Goldmarie, Schmellerstraße 23, 80337 Munich, telephone: 089/51669272, Tuesday to Friday 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight, Saturday 6 p.m. to midnight, www.goldmarie-muenchen.de

Kismet

When it comes to a romantic dinner for two, most people probably automatically think of candlelight. This is where kismet can serve. And how! Glass holders are mounted on the wall throughout the room, with a block candle behind each. The flickering of the candles in the evening in combination with the emerald green tiled walls has something almost magical. Dine like in a thousand and one nights. To go with this, Kismet serves oriental dishes – all of which are meat-free. Perfect if your loved one is vegetarian.

The fantastic starters alone, such as beetroot mousse with goat cheese or smoked eggplant ragout with garlic and parsley and the flatbread served with it, often satisfy your hunger. The lovers can then share the main course, such as a tagine – a dish in a Moroccan clay pot with couscous, chickpeas, peppers, salted lemons and halloumi.

Kismet, Löwengrube 10, 80333 Munich, telephone: 089/220352, Monday to Saturday 6 p.m. to midnight, www.kismet.cc
