The extraordinary voice of the legendary French singer Édith Piaf returns – thanks to artificial intelligence.

The legendary French chanson singer Édith Piaf (1915-1963) is back – at least her voice thanks to artificial intelligence. As Warner Music announced on Tuesday, a documentary about the “La vie en rose” interpreter is currently in the works. The special thing is that her life story is told by none other than herself. Of course, this is only possible with the use of the latest technology and artificial intelligence.

According to the official announcement, Piaf would play an important role in the animated biopic “Edith” thanks to “innovative and groundbreaking AI technology.” They previously teamed up with the singer’s estate to recreate her voice and likeness for the upcoming documentary. Hundreds of their recordings, some over 80 years old, were collected, examined and recreated by the AI.

Édith Piaf’s estate administrators said in a statement: “It was a special and touching experience to be able to hear Édith’s voice again – the technology made us feel like we were in the same room with her again.” The film starts in the 1920s and is intended to show Piaf’s life in Paris and New York until her death in 1963. The film is already in the final stages of development, but a date has not yet been announced.

Édith Piaf died at the age of 47 as a result of cancer

“Piaf’s distinctive voice and image are revived to further enhance the authenticity and emotional impact of her story,” it said. The film also contains original recordings of their greatest hits, including of course “La vie en rose” and “Non, je ne regrette rien”. Piaf is a “symbol of female self-determination” and “one of the most famous French artists of all time.”

Piaf, who had her first successes as a singer as a child, suffered from liver cancer at the end of the 1950s. Her delicate body had already been severely weakened by years of alcohol and drug consumption. On October 10, 1963, Édith Piaf died in her home on the Côte d’Azur at the age of just 47.
