Economy in the district – trade tax continues to bubble – Ebersberg

Despite the corona crisis, trade tax income in the Ebersberg district rose significantly in the past year. This comes from a press release from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK). Accordingly, the revenue grew by around 39 percent compared to the previous year to more than 88 million euros, before deduction of the trade tax apportionment to the federal and state governments. Emmering was the only municipality to increase the trade tax multiplier from 2019 to 2020 – from 310 to 320 points. This averaged 329 points in the district, according to an evaluation by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce for Munich and Upper Bavaria. There was no lowering of the assessment rate in any district municipality.

In the whole of Upper Bavaria, the average assessment rate was unchanged at 335 points. Six out of 500 Upper Bavarian municipalities increased their trade tax rates compared to 2019. In contrast, there were reductions in the assessment rate in two municipalities. With a rate of assessment of 380 points, Pliening is the front runner when it comes to the level of the business tax rate in the district. At the other end of the scale are Bruck, Glonn, Moosach, Oberpframmern, Poing and Zorneding. There the assessment rate is 310 points. A minimum lifting rate of 200 points is required by law for municipalities nationwide.

“The Corona crisis has put an extremely heavy burden on companies in many industries,” says Sonja Ziegltrum-Teubner, chairwoman of the IHK regional committee in Ebersberg. Under no circumstances should the burgeoning recovery be threatened by an untimely turning of the tax screw. “The companies now need their liquidity primarily for investments. The economy relies on the municipalities’ sense of proportion, as the federal and state governments can help them if they have financial needs,” said Ziegltrum-Teubner. A lower rate of assessment leaves companies more breathing space and investing and leads to better economic development with corresponding tax revenues in the long term.

The basis of the IHK evaluation is the data on trade tax rates and municipal finances, which are regularly published by the Bavarian State Office for Statistics.
