Economists – Fewer Bankruptcies Than Expected – Economy

The number of bankruptcies in Germany continues to rise slightly, but the feared wave of insolvencies has not yet emerged, according to IWH economists. As the Leibniz Institute for Economic Research Halle (IWH) announced, the number of insolvencies of partnerships and corporations was 655 in November. This was an increase of 15 percent compared to the all-time low in August 2021 and was at the level of the previous month. The trend will initially continue, said Steffen Müller, head of insolvency research at the IWH. In order to avoid damage caused by a lack of competition, politicians should signal that the corona aid will not continue beyond March 2022.
