Eco-friendly sneakers created with fabrics from the Palace of Versailles

Castle life for your feet. The Palace of Versailles in collaboration with Le Lissier, an artisanal house that works in textile upgrading, is launching a collection of eco-responsible sneakers with the fabrics used in the scenography of the Hyacinthe Rigaud exhibition. “The fabrics are really beautiful, they were made especially for the exhibition, and they are quite resistant so they lend themselves well to upcycling”, a practice which consists in recycling unused materials to give them a second life, explains Nicole Carrouset, founder of Le Lissier.

The decorations of the exhibition were made by the Italian scenographer Pier Luigi Pizzi. In collaboration with the Venetian house Rubelli, he created a decor made of a fabric embroidered with gold thread to recall the refinement of the court of Versailles. Thirteen variations of this fabric were used for the decoration of the exhibition. From this scenography, three fabrics were selected by the Le Lissier team for the creation of the sneakers. Two of them are decorated with lilies, one blue and one gold. The third is dotted with red reflections.

Two hundred pairs of sneakers

“The sneakers are sold as a drop. For the first, there were a hundred pairs. This time, there are 200, ”explains Nicole Carrouset. The sneakers are currently available for pre-order on the site of the castle.

At the same time, the Palace of Versailles is launching another upcycling collection with Gaëlle Constantini. From these same fabrics, she imagined a collection of accessories for outdoor lunches and decoration.
