Ebersberg police warn of telephone scammers – Ebersberg

The Ebersberg police warn of telephone scammers, who have recently been increasingly active in the district. On Thursday, the office received numerous calls from citizens who had previously been contacted by the bandits. In one case, the scammers were also successful: A senior citizen from the southern district fell for one of the scams and transferred 3,200 euros to the perpetrator, who pretended to be her son.

But the fraudsters have also tried it as fake police officers – and led the callers into believing that their assets were in danger because of a gang of burglars and had to be brought to safety. The wrong policeman then offers to pick up the valuables, as the Ebersberg police warns. Another scam is the promise of winnings. In order to receive a price of several thousand euros, those affected would first have to pay notary or other fees, which usually amount to several hundred euros. Of course, the fraudsters also collect this money. After all, there are always perpetrators who pretend to be Europol or Interpol agents and are also after their victims’ money.

In the series of fraud attempts that have now been reported, however, the perpetrators only managed to get money in one case. Everyone else called saw through the scam and reported it to the real police.
