A man had a fatal accident while swimming in the Steinsee in the Ebersberg district on Friday afternoon. The 70-year-old from Munich wanted to swim with his wife through the lake near Moosach and had not reached the other bank, a police spokesman said on Saturday. His wife swam ahead of him and therefore did not initially notice his disappearance.
Ultimately, the 69-year-old searched the swimming area alone for an hour. Back on shore she reported the incident. During a large-scale search operation involving around 120 rescue workers, the man was rescued dead from the lake after around three hours. The police are now investigating the circumstances of the accident.
