Easter travel traffic: the traffic situation has eased again | NDR.de – News

Busy holiday traffic on Good Friday caused traffic jams and long waiting times on several motorways. According to the police, the situation normalized in the afternoon.

Drivers had previously had to be patient on the A1, 7 and 31 northbound. The reason was the high volume of traffic. Between Hanover and Hamburg, traffic on the A7 from the Walsroder Dreieck was temporarily backed up for up to 15 kilometers in length. There was a similarly long traffic jam on the A1 northbound between Bramsche and Holdorf. A traffic jam on the A31 between the Bunde and Jemgum triangle also caused a loss of time of up to two hours.

Northbound routes are particularly popular

As early as Thursday afternoon, it had become tight in some places because there were commuters on the road in addition to tourist traffic. In the Hamburg area, for example, traffic was occasionally slowed down, but there were no long traffic jams or major disruptions. For the Easter weekend, the traffic experts expect delays, especially at construction sites and on the motorways in the metropolitan areas. Popular destinations include the islands and coasts on the North and Baltic Seas, it said. The routes that are particularly affected include the A1 from Bremen via Hamburg and the A7 between Hanover and Flensburg.

The high volume of traffic is particularly problematic where construction is taking place – in Lower Saxony, for example, on the A1 between Osnabrück and Bremen, on the A7 between the Harz Mountains and Göttingen and just after Hanover and Hildesheim. Towards the coast, the ADAC expects traffic jams at the Ems tunnel near Leer and on the A29. The ferries to the islands are also well booked. The shipping companies recommend inquiring early on whether tickets are still available.

MV: Crowded streets especially on Holy Saturday

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the ADAC expects the streets to be full, especially on Holy Saturday. So far it has been relatively quiet and there have been no significant traffic jams or accidents, according to the responsible police stations. However, that could change quickly. Traditionally, in addition to Maundy Thursday, Holy Saturday in particular is a day on which significantly more traffic can be expected on the streets in MV. In order to prevent traffic jams, the State Office for Road Construction and Transport said it had completed or dismantled some construction sites before Easter. Among other things, the two bridges to Usedom – the Peenebrücke in Wolgast and the Zecheriner bascule bridge – have been open to traffic again for a few days.

Travel probably not as strong as before the pandemic

According to the ADAC, the main reason for increased travel this year is that national travel is possible again. It can be assumed that the traffic jam situation will be more tense than at the past two Easter holidays, because this year probably significantly more people will be taking their cars to visit relatives, short trips and excursions in the area. According to the experts, the wave of travel is unlikely to be as big as it was before the corona pandemic. The ADAC suspects that many people will forego longer trips and trips abroad. The reasons for this are the high number of corona infections War in the Ukraine and the very high fuel costs.

Fuel prices: significant price differences

A current analysis by the ADAC of fuel prices in all 16 federal states shows that there are currently major price differences in gasoline costs in Germany. The price difference is therefore particularly large for diesel fuel: Drivers in Bremen and Hamburg pay an average of 1.925 euros per liter of diesel. For the same amount they have to pay 1.996 euros in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. That means a price premium of 7.1 cents per liter for gas station customers in the northeast.
