East Bavaria: lessons are canceled due to storm lows – Bavaria

The storm “Ylenia” caused thousands of households in Bavaria to lose power. The largest electricity network operator in the Free State, Bayernwerk Netz, recorded 10,000 people affected, as a spokesman said on Thursday morning. In most cases, the supply was restored quickly.

The cause of the failures are often trees that have fallen on lines. How long it takes to restore power depends on the specific damage. Among other things, it depends on whether the damaged line can be bypassed by changing the circuits in the network.

The police and fire brigade were on duty throughout Bavaria at night and in the morning. The Free State was initially spared major damage, as several police spokesmen said. In Langerringen near Augsburg, a power pole snapped. In addition, a photovoltaic system blew down from a house roof in Augsburg. The damage was still unclear.

In some places, cars drove over fallen trees. There were no injuries. A trampoline blew onto a street in the Upper Palatinate. Trailers, traffic signs and garbage cans were also blown over by the storm.

Classes are canceled in many places

Because of the hurricane-like gusts, classes are canceled in parts of Upper Franconia and the Upper Palatinate as well as in the Rhön on Thursday. This applies to the city and district of Coburg, the city and district of Hof and the districts of Kronach, Kulmbach and Wunsiedel in the Fichtelgebirge. The city of Amberg and the surrounding district of Amberg-Sulzbach, Bayreuth city and district, the districts of Neustadt an der Waldnaab, Schwandorf, Tirschenreuth and the city of Weiden in der Oberpfalz and the district of Rhön-Grabfeld are also affected.

The German Weather Service (DWD) warns of severe gusts of wind up to 100 kilometers per hour until the afternoon. In the ridges of the low mountain ranges and in the high altitudes of the Alps there can be hurricane-like or hurricane gusts of up to 120 km/h, on high Alpine peaks extreme hurricane gusts of around 140 km/h. The wind is expected to weaken on Friday night.

The Kronach District Office referred to the German Weather Service (DWD), which advised against staying outdoors on Thursday. Due to possible dangers on the way to school, there is a weather-related cancellation of classes.
