The battery exploded Monday morning around six o’clock. A few minutes later, an alarm system woke the residents from their sleep and informed the emergency services. When the first fire engine arrived around quarter past six, the luxury villa in Isernhagen near Hanover was already “on fire,” according to the police report. It took 82 firefighters more than three hours on January 17 to extinguish the flames. Police investigators were able to clarify the cause of the fire on the same day: the battery of an e-bike caught fire when it was being charged in the library. The flames caught papers, books and furniture and ate through the entire house. Estimated property damage: 1.5 million euros.
