Dupond-Moretti trial, immigration bill and weather alert

Did you miss the news this morning? We have put together a summary to help you see things more clearly.

This is an unprecedented trial which will begin this Monday at 2 p.m. For ten days, the current Minister of Justice, Éric Dupond-Moretti, will in fact be sitting in the dock of a court, accused of conflicts of interest in the context of his functions.

The hearings before the Court of Justice of the Republic (CJR), the only one authorized to judge members of the government for acts committed in the exercise of their functions, will be held at the Paris courthouse. Éric Dupond-Moretti, “serene” and who is “eager” to explain himself according to those around him, should have the floor for an introductory statement at the end of the afternoon. His interrogation is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Gérald Darmanin is walking on a tightrope with his immigration bill. While the text arrives this Monday in the Senate, the Minister of the Interior assured Sunday evening on France 2 that he wanted to avoid using article 49.3 to have it adopted. Problem: for the moment, there is no majority in either the Senate or the Assembly for this bill. The government will therefore have to maneuver closely to reach an agreement.

Emmanuel Macron also sent a signal to the right by saying he was ready on Sunday evening to broaden the scope of referendums to social issues, including immigration, a pressing request from LR.

After the passage of storms Ciaran and Domingos over France, the week which opens will also be synonymous with rain. The weather this Monday will indeed remain very rainy, particularly in the north and New Aquitaine, with eight departments still on orange alert for floods, according to Météo-France.

These are Pas-de-Calais, Deux-Sèvres, Vienne, Charente, Charente-Maritime, Dordogne, Corrèze and Gironde. Pas-de-Calais is also placed on orange rain-flood alert.
