The British Duchess Kate turns 40. On the occasion of this milestone birthday, ZDF is showing a documentary about her life and her role at court and in public – and that at prime time.

On January 9th, the time has come: Then Duchess Kate will be 40. She was going to celebrate unspectacularly and in close family circles, it was learned in advance. Last year, the Duchess had a small party due to the pandemic. Two days after her birthday, ZDF pays tribute to the member of the British royal family with a documentary – and that at prime time.

The ZDFzeit documentary “Duchess Kate – Fairy Tales, Power and Fashion” will run on Tuesday, January 11th at 8:15 pm. Ulrike Grunewald’s film will be available for three months in the ZDF media library on the day of broadcast from 5 p.m., emphasized the second in Mainz in advance.

Duchess Kate and Prince William stage themselves skillfully

Catherine, most often referred to as Kate, is becoming “the central figure of the Windsors” and “more and more a female leader” in the royal family after the 95-year-old Queen Elizabeth II has been increasingly withdrawing since the death of her husband, Prince Philip. She is the wife of Queen’s grandson Prince William.

The ZDF documentary wants to answer the question of how Kate managed to appear “down-to-earth and glamorous at the same time” in the world public. “Her appearances are a media event: whether as a glittering gold fairytale princess or a neat mother of three well-educated children – she is convincing in every role.” This is no coincidence: “Kate and William control the image that the public gets to see of them and their family in a very targeted manner.”
