Royals start their Caribbean trip in Belize

Duchess Kate and Prince William have arrived in the Caribbean. They started their visit in Belize, which has already caused irritation.
Duchess Kate (40) and Prince William (39) have landed in the Caribbean for their week-long visit. On Saturday, the two were ceremoniously greeted in Belize by Governor General Froyla Tzalam and her husband Daniel Mendez at the airport with a 21-gun salute. Kate chose a blue Jenny Packham lace skirt and matching clutch for her performance – a colorful homage to the host country’s flag. Prince William stepped off the British government plane in a matching light blue suit.
After the official reception, it was on to Prime Minister Juan Antonio Briceno, who warmly welcomed the two to his country. In the run-up to the trip on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s throne (95), there were already some irritations. Among other things, a visit to a cocoa farm is said to have been canceled because the residents there did not want to receive the royal couple. The protest is intended to demonstrate rejection of colonialism. Among other things, the approximately 1,000 villagers refused to allow Kate and William’s helicopter to land on a soccer field.
The Queen follows the journey from Windsor Castle
Duchess Kate and Prince William’s trip will also take the royal couple to Jamaica and the Bahamas, among other places. The Queen herself will follow the visit from her Windsor Castle with interest, the palace said in a statement. William is said to have spoken extensively with his grandmother about the Caribbean stay in advance. The monarch shared her own memories of the region with her grandson.
