Just recently, the district of Erding, about 40 kilometers east of Munich, made its citizens aware of this by means of a small message in the official bulletin: Holders of driving licenses who were born between 1953 and 1958 should refer to the Open up to the driver’s license office in the coming months and apply for the exchange of your old “rag” there. Incidentally, this does not only apply to people who live in the Erding district. “Drivers across Germany will have to deal with this issue in the coming years,” says Sören Heinze from the Auto Club Europa (ACE). The exchange campaign should be completed by January 19, 2033 at the latest. “But currently,” says Heinze, “there is still a lot of mess and confusion.”
