This 9th stage of the Tour of Italy, the first in high mountains with a finish at the top of Campo Felice on an unpaved road, was eagerly awaited. After the first thrills Thursday at Ascoli Piceno, the favorites fought a great battle and it was Egan Bernal who emerged victorious. The Colombian won solo with a few seconds ahead of Giulio Ciccone and Aleksander Vlasov, and took the opportunity to don the general leader’s pink jersey.

The winner of the Tour de France 2019 left his opponents behind on the cyclo-cross track which served as the finish, after a climb of 6.6 kilometers. Starting this morning with great ambitions, the Belgian Remco Evanpoel had to settle for 4th place, ten seconds behind. Note on the French side the 7th place of Romain Bardet, who finished just 12 seconds behind the winner of the day. The new DSM rider is 13th overall.

This stage was also marked by the very spectacular fall of Matej Mohoric, passed over his bike in the descent of Passo Godi, 41 kilometers after the start. The Slovenian, whose bike broke on impact, landed on his head. He got to his feet immediately before sitting down, visibly shocked, and being evacuated on a stretcher.
