Borussia Dortmund is in the middle of planning the new season. A good two weeks before the start of training, however, only Ramy Bensebaini from Gladbach has been officially announced as a new signing.

Rumors of Wolfsburg’s Felix Nmecha signing continue, although fans have expressed their dislike on social media. The striker recently made headlines by sharing homophobic videos.

Dortmund transfer activities stall

In addition to Nmecha and Bensebaini, BVB is also associated with other professionals. The Spanish talent Ousmane Diallo from Deportivo Alavés should therefore also be on the way to the Westphalia. In addition, the name of Ajax midfielder Edson Álvarez has been haunting Dortmund’s environment for several weeks.

The Mexican six has long been considered a possible replacement for Jude Bellingham, who had moved to Real Madrid. However, both Sport1 and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano are now reporting that a move from Álvarez to BVB had failed.

According to Sport1, Ajax Amsterdam wanted at least 35 million euros. In the end, probably too much for Dortmund. Coach Edin Terzić in particular is said to have spoken out against a commitment due to the overall financial package.

Rather, Terzić should now insist on extending the contract with Emre Can. The German national player’s contract currently runs until the summer of 2024. The defensive midfielder had developed back into a top performer under Terzić, especially in the final spurt of the season.

However, the current failure of the negotiations on the Álvarez deal is not the first disappointment that those responsible for BVB have to accept in squad planning. Laut the “West” the negotiations with Daichi Kamada (Frankfurt) and Enzo Le Fée (Lorient) were already considered to be close to completion. In the end, these deals also fell through.

In addition to Dortmund, FC Bayern was also considered interested in the Mexican international a few weeks ago. However, the German record champions quickly abandoned the idea. With BVB, the second German club boss has now spoken out against Álvarez.

The big problem: According to “Transfermarkt.de”, the 25-year-old has a market value of 35 million euros, plus a contract until 2025. A receiving club can therefore not assume that Álvarez will sign for a smaller sum.

The black and yellow’s record purchase so far is Ousmane Dembélé. The Frenchman arrived from Stade Rennes in the summer of 2016 for €35m. BVB should have invested at least the same sum for Álvarez. Too much for Borussia.
