Dominique Faure, ex-tenniswoman and new deputy for Haute-Garonne, enters the government

A few more weeks ago, Dominique Faure was mayor of Saint-Orens-de-Gameville, a town of nearly 12,000 inhabitants southeast of Toulouse. A mandate that she could not combine with that of deputy and that she will release this Thursday, just elected in the 10th district of Haute-Garonne, under the banner of the presidential majority. If she took her first steps at the Palais-Bourbon in the past few days, it is under a new status that she will soon return there.

Indeed, this 62-year-old computer engineer has just been appointed Secretary of State for Rurality with Christophe Béchu, Minister for Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion. Although the city of Saint-Orens, where she cut her teeth as a local elected representative, is located on the direct outskirts of the Pink City, the territory of her new constituency is rather rural because it covers in particular the very agricultural sector of Lauragais. Her new position in the government is in a way a homecoming for this peasant granddaughter.

From tennis to the business world

However, until now, it is rather in the economic field that this member of the Radical Party for ten years had distinguished herself this former executive worked for IBM, Motorola, SFR and Veolia. It was also her delegation as vice-president of the Toulouse metropolis, responsible for attracting new innovative companies to the area of activity in this territory focused on the aerospace sector.

Endowed with a dynamic image, Dominique Faure also owes it to her status as a former French tennis team champion. But after having walked the courts of Roland-Garros in her youth until reaching the level of twelfth French player, she continued her studies by following an engineering course at INSA and obtaining an MBA at HEC Paris. By succeeding in less than a month to become a deputy, then secretary of state, it is in any case a winning service for the sexagenarian.
