Domingos storm: thirteen departments placed on orange vigilance this Sunday

Thirteen departments are now placed on orange vigilance for wind, floods, rain-flooding and/or waves-submersion, since midnight this Sunday, while the storm Domingos arrived via the Atlantic coast and swept across part of France. Some departments combine several vigilance measures.

  • Three departments, Charente-Maritime, Charente and Gironde, are still on orange “wind” alert.
  • The orange alert for “submersion waves” is still in force in Charente-Maritime, Gironde, Bouches-du-Rhône, Var, Alpes-Maritimes and Southern Corsica, while Corsica is on orange “rain-flood” alert.
  • Nine departments, finally, were placed on orange “flood” vigilance: Charente, Charente-Maritime, Corrèze, Corse-du-Sud, Haute-Corse, Dordogne, Pas-de-Calais, Deux-Sèvres and Vienne

On the wind side, gusts will still reach 100 km/h on the south Atlantic coast early in the morning. This westerly wind will decrease but will remain noticeable on the coasts with gusts between 60/80 km/h, up to 90 km/h on the Mediterranean coasts.

A pattern of showers will also set in over the country and will be accompanied by thunderclaps on the Aquitaine coast and towards the Channel coast. The showers will be sustained over New Aquitaine and towards the Massif Central.

In the afternoon, clearings will develop over the northern half, with a few more showers possible. They will remain more numerous near the coasts. From the Pyrenean foothills to the South-East, the weather will be more pleasant with the return of the sun and clearings will reach the Rhône valley. In the Alps, the sky will remain cloudy over the north of the range, with snowfall from 1,700 m.
