Domestic and sexual violence: Quebec deploys emergency financial assistance

The Quebec government confirmed Friday the deployment of emergency financial assistance to victims of sexual violence and domestic violence, first in the regions of Laval and Montérégie and everywhere else in Quebec in the coming months.

This emergency assistance will allow a victim of violence whose safety or that of their children is compromised to quickly leave a dangerous environment.

Several expenses may be covered, in particular transport and accommodation costs as well as the living expenses of the victim and his dependents.

The new service will be administered by the organizations SOS violence conjugale and Info-aide sexual violence, depending on the nature of the violence suffered. Front-line workers, such as police, shelters or victim support centers, will be able to contact emergency financial assistance administrators seven days a week, at any time of the day or night. .

To prevent the victim from having to repeat their story over and over, emergency aid administrators will contact the service providers to meet their needs.

The deployment of this emergency financial assistance was provided for in the reform of the compensation scheme for victims of crime (IVAC).

If you are a victim of domestic violence, you can call the SOS violence conjugale emergency line at 1 800 363-9010.

If you are a victim of sexual violence, you can contact a Sexual Assault Assistance Center (CALACS) near from your place. Click here to see the list.
