Does your establishment prepare well for the baccalaureate?

The Ministry of Education has just published the “success indicators” for high schools based on the 2023 baccalaureate results. Discover the result of your establishment.

Is studying in a Parisian private high school a guarantee of baccalaureate success? These establishments dominate the BFM ranking of the best high schools in France, published this Wednesday March 20 and based on the “results indicators” of the Ministry of National Education.

To decide between establishments, we successively took into account four criteria:

  • their baccalaureate success rate in 2023,
  • their rate of mentions in the same year
  • their “added value” for these two indicators.

This “added value” measures “the difference between the results obtained and the results that were hoped for, taking into account the academic and socio-professional characteristics of the students”. In other words, the higher the added value of an establishment, the more it has exceeded expectations given the profile of high school students. Which can mean, specifies the ministry, that he “was able to develop in students, perhaps less well endowed at the start, the knowledge and abilities which enabled their success”.

The ranking of general and technological high schools

How does your high school rank? Type the name of your establishment or the city that interests you in the search engine located just above the list to consult its results. You will be able to consult the baccalaureate success rates and the mention rate obtained in general and technological high schools in 2023, the “expected” rates in each establishment and, in parentheses, their “added value”.

This ranking does not indicate the involvement of the teaching staff, the quality of the teaching provided, the options offered, or the general well-being of the students. The ranking, to be discovered in full below, is only based on performance indicators and does not take into account criteria other than educational success.

Private establishments dominate the top of the ranking, with the Saint-François d’Assise high school in Montigny-le-Bretonneux (Yvelines), which posted a 100% success rate and mentions in the baccalaureate last year, as well as strong added value. Only 11 public high schools appear in the top 100, including Henri IV high schoollocated in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, also with 100% success and mentions.

Another constant in this ranking: Ile-de-France establishments dominate the top places. The first high school outside Île-de-France, the private high school Lacordaire in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) is 9th in our ranking, with a success rate of 100% and a mention rate of 99%.

These good performances can be explained by multiple factors including, for certain establishments, selection, with the departure during the course of students whose results are considered too low. Another criterion to examine, available in our search engine, is therefore the baccalaureate access rate: the proportion of second year students who obtained the diploma while remaining in the establishment.
