One of the most personal portraits of the former Chancellor will be shown by Arte and Das Erste at the end of February. In addition to Merkel herself, Barack Obama, Theresa May and Christine Lagarde, among others, have their say.

Angela Merkel returns to the slot for the Sunday evening talk “Anne Will”. On February 27th at 9.45 p.m. the first will show the new documentary “Angela Merkel – In the course of time” by documentary filmmaker Torsten Körner.

Companions such as Barack Obama, Theresa May, Christine Lagarde and former Chancellor Merkel have their say.

Merkel shows personal moments

“Angela Merkel took a lot of time for this wide-ranging project and was available two days before her successor was sworn in for two detailed interviews, the last of her term of office,” said the responsible MDR (Mitteldeutsche Rundfunk). “She is also shown in very personal moments and allows insights into her thoughts and feelings.”

The film can be found in the Arte media library from February 20th and also in the ARD media library from February 25th. On linear television, it will first run on Arte on Tuesday, February 22 (8:15 p.m.) and on Sunday, February 27 (9:45 p.m.) on the first.

Basic Questions

According to MDR, the documentary wants to investigate fundamental questions: “Was the chancellor a guarantor of stability in turbulent times or is she responsible for political stagnation? How does she feel about the refugee situation in 2015? How does it rate its climate policy? Did she ultimately fail as a corona fighter?”
