District of Munich: Expansion of the S7 – Schreyer puts pressure on Bernreiter – District of Munich

Bavaria’s former Transport Minister Kerstin Schreyer (CSU) is confident that the double-track expansion of the S 7 will come from Giesing via Aying to Kreuzstrasse. The member of the state parliament from Unterhaching announced that she had received corresponding signals in response to a request to her successor in office. “Christian Bernreiter has assured me in writing that the planning for the expansion of the S 7 will continue unabated,” said the 51-year-old.

For decades, the double-track expansion of the outer branches of the Munich S-Bahn has been stagnating, especially in the district of Munich. Resentment had also caused statements by S-Bahn boss Heiko Büttner in June, according to which infrastructure projects of this size would result in very long planning and implementation periods. Some people in district politics understood this as a rejection of the double-track expansion of the S 7 – including Kerstin Schreyer.

Now the former transport minister is making it clear once again how important she thinks the expansion is: In the city center, commuters can switch to the bus, tram or subway, but in the surrounding area they are dependent on the S-Bahn. Therefore, the infrastructure must be expanded. During her time as Bavarian Minister of Transport, she therefore initiated the “Railway Expansion Region Munich” program, which also includes the further deepening of the double-track expansion of the S 7. “If we want to get more people into public transport, we have to improve the infrastructure on the outskirts,” said the CSU member of the state parliament.
