No, you don’t have to dismantle a hotel room, be a passionate stage diver or set a guitar on fire to increase your chances of being accepted. But a good sense of rhythm, a rocking voice or the ability to pull off a catchy riff – that shouldn’t hurt. Young musicians from the district of Munich, the city and neighboring districts can now apply again for the band competition “Running for the Best” of the KJR München-Land. The Newcomer Contest 2023, which starts in spring with the live acts, is open to all styles, but applicants must be under 27 and live in the district or the surrounding area. Even if they have their rehearsal room in the district, for example in Gleis 1 in Unterschleißheim or in Route 66 in Haar, they have the chance to take part. Applications start this Monday, December 12th. Interested parties can find the online application form and all other information at www.runningforthebest.de.
A festival performance and a photo shoot await the winner
The district youth council’s band competition has existed since 1991. The preliminary rounds and finals now take place in spring and summer. The winners of the past two years were determined in open-air events: In 2021, the Unterföhringer Band won in the courtyard of the Ismaninger Seidl-Mühle As it rains, In 2022 the winning quintet was convincing plume with electronic post-rock jury and audience the most.
This year, the cooperation with the Association for Pop Culture in Bavaria (VPBy) and the district of Munich makes it possible for the first time that already at the concerts on April 28th in platform 3 in Neubiberg, on April 29th in Juz Kirchheim, on May 5th in platform 1 in Unterschleißheim and on May 6th in Juha Neuried a social media coaching for all selected bands and solo artists will be offered. As always, a jury of experts will decide together with the audience who will reach the final. This will take place in Haar in 2023, on June 30th.
Among other things, the winner can look forward to an appearance at the “Laut.Stark” festival of the DGB youth Munich on May 1, 2024 at Marienplatz in Munich as well as a professional photo or trailer shoot at the Gadget Productions Studios in Kirchheim. Interested musicians can apply until March 1, 2023.
