District no longer wants to take in refugees from Ukraine – Bavaria

Because of the problems with the distribution of war refugees from the Ukraine, the northern Swabian district of Donau-Ries does not want to take in any more refugees for the time being. District Administrator Stefan Rößle (CSU) announced this on Wednesday. He justified this by saying that on Tuesday 50 helpers had waited in vain for two buses with 100 people – ultimately only eleven refugees had arrived after midnight.

Other politicians from the Free State had criticized such problems in the distribution of people from Ukraine in the past few days. Rößle was irritated that the Federal Office for Goods Transport was responsible for the distribution of people seeking protection. This authority commissioned Deutsche Bahn, which in turn hired subcontractors for the bus trips. “The bus drivers are not able to give the district administration authorities they are driving reliable information on the number of people or the time of arrival,” reported the district office in Donauwörth. “This is a situation that you can’t really imagine in a country like Germany, which is a world leader in many areas.”

On Tuesday, Bavaria’s Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) also asked the federal government for better coordination in the distribution and transport of refugees. The Donau-Ries district office emphasized again: “These chaotic circumstances in the allocation of refugees from the Ukraine endanger the motivation of the full-time and voluntary helpers to the highest degree.”
