Should the overnight tax come, the Tourismus Initiative München wants to end the cooperation with the city immediately. But whether and when the fee will come is still open.
The planned bed tax could massively affect the cooperation between the city and tourism companies. The Tourismus Initiative München (TIM), an association of important players in the hospitality industry, will end the cooperation immediately when the new tax comes into force. This was decided by the general meeting, according to a statement. However, the termination of the cooperation will only take effect when the planned tax of five percent on commercial and tourist overnight stays actually comes into force. According to TIM, this can take up to five years.
The reason for this is a ban on the bed tax by the Free State, which it decided without further ado after the city council decision in Munich under pressure from the tourism industry. The city wants to sue against it, it could take so long until a final judgment is reached. Until then, TIM wants to continue working with the city. And even for the time after that, it doesn’t have to be the end of it despite the termination. One is ready to negotiate a new cooperation, it said in the message. It’s probably all about money, the hospitality industry sees itself unnecessarily burdened by the tax.
