Nobody can do anything about their name. Especially not the five millimeter tall, eyeless, light brown beetle that probably leads an uneventful life in the karst caves of Slovenia. A common beetle that entomologists can only clearly identify by its penis: clumsy, narrowed at the tip and bent up. Nobody would be interested in Anolphthalmus hitleri if its discoverer, the Austrian amateur collector Oskar Scheible, had not named it after his worst compatriot in 1937 and “appropriated it to Reich Chancellor Adolf Hitler as an expression of my admiration.”
