If you want inclusion, you have to create accessibility. On the International Day of People with Disabilities, the guests of the stern-DISKUTHEK talk about the barriers they encounter in everyday life and what needs to change so that all of us can lead a self-determined life.

Accessibility, what is it all about? For people with disabilities, this means being able to lead a self-determined life. People who are not disabled often do not realize that some of us do not have access to everything. And that doesn’t just mean an elevator that replaces the stairs. It’s about much more. Accessibility is a human right and a prerequisite for inclusion and participation.
So what needs to change in Germany? These guests discuss:
- Erdin Ciplak aka mr.blindlife is content creator and gives guided tours at “Dialogue in the Dark”
- Aaron Wahl is an author and lecturer on autism and emotion management
- Katrin Langensiepen is a member of the European Parliament (The Greens/EFA) and deals with disability policy, among other things
- Fredi Schoenecker aka triplepower_lion speaks of a child with Down syndrome from her perspective as a caring mother

Our guest Aaron Wahl was considered unable to work in his early 20s. He was later diagnosed with Asperger’s. In Hamburg, Aaron then worked with a physically based training method that was originally developed for actors, but is also intended to promote the strengths of autistic people. The training is explicitly not a recognized therapy and is therefore controversial in its use in autistic people.
