The Fridays for Future activist Luisa Neubauer made a picture of the flood disaster in Slovenia. She herself wants to help alleviate the need. What you want from politics.

During a visit to Slovenia, which was hit by a devastating flood, the Fridays for Future activist Luisa Neubauer called for more decisive efforts from the governments of Europe in the fight against climate change. “This year and especially this summer, the summer of 2023, must be a turning point for European action against the climate catastrophe,” said Neubauer at a joint appearance with climate activists from other countries in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana. “We demand that European leaders wake up to this crisis.”

Continuous heavy rains had overflowed rivers and water bodies in Slovenia for days. Floods and landslides caused enormous damage. Villages were evacuated, roads and railroad tracks were flooded, hundreds of bridges were torn down and businesses were destroyed. Prime Minister Robert Golob estimated the damage at several billion euros.

In a joint paper, activists from different European countries called for special EU funds to help regions in Central, Southern and Eastern Europe hardest hit by forest fires, floods and other extreme weather events. These are becoming more likely as climate change progresses.

Neubauer announced that he wanted to help in the flood areas. According to Fridays for Future Germany, between 200 and 300 volunteers have volunteered, including some from Germany.
