Disappearance of Erwan, 18 years old: a body found Thursday near the nightclub, the causes of death now known

The first results of the autopsy were revealed by the Niort prosecutor’s office this Friday. In the coming days, analyzes should confirm that it is Erwan who has been missing since the night of February 10 to 11, 2024 in Deux-Sèvres.

Erwan, the 18-year-old student who went missing in February after a nightclub night in Moncoutant-sur-Sèvre (Deux-Sèvres) and whose body was discovered on Thursday April 4, 2024 in a river, most likely drowned, announced the Niort prosecutor’s office.

The autopsy carried out on Friday at the Poitiers medico-legal institute “did not reveal any lesion suggestive of violence, seizure, constraint or defense which could raise suspicion of the violent intervention of a third party. The hypothesis “The main reason is a death by drowning”, writes the public prosecutor in Niort, in a press release.

A lifeless body, bearing the identity papers of Erwan Blais were found in the clothes worn by the corpse discovered by a fisherman Thursday afternoon in an arm of the Sèvre Nantaise, near the nightclub, the magistrate indicated Thursday evening.

“Genetic samples were taken to confirm the identity of the deceased. The results should be known in the middle of next week,” he specifies.

According to the investigation, the young man left the establishment around 1:45 a.m. and video surveillance images revealed his presence in the parking lot later that night. A call for witnesses was sent out after a raid that involved 120 people.

Dozens of gendarmes, including divers, dogs, a drone and a helicopter, also participated in the search in the days following the disappearance, without success.
