Director Marie Kreutzer deals with the criminal proceedings against Florian Teichtmeister, who took part in her film “Corsage”, on a personal and political level. “Teichtmeister is by no means an isolated case, although it is a very prominent case,” she said in an interview with the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. It was recently announced that Teichtmeister had been charged with possession of child pornography.

The case overshadows the success of Kreutzer’s Sisi film “Corsage”, which is among other things in the preselection for the foreign Oscar. It will be announced on Tuesday whether the film has made it into the nominees. “Of course, how I feel is unimportant in relation to the victims of child abuse, of whom many who are now adults are following this case and are re-traumatized,” said Kreutzer.

Hoped for an Oscar nomination until recently

At the same time, she emphasized: “Years of work and a lot of love from many people have gone into “Corsage”. That’s why it hurts so much that the film will always be tainted with these horrible deeds.” Until a few days ago, the team was of course hoping for an Oscar nomination. “Now I don’t know what to wish for.” More important than any price, however, is “to deal with the offense itself and with what actually happened there”.

Kreutzer said in an interview that she confronted Teichtmeister with the allegations when they became public in autumn 2021. “I emailed him asking what was the truth of what I heard. He then emailed me back and clearly denied it. If you know each other personally, you might ask, but that wasn’t the case. Teichtmeister’s lawyer had said that the actor would plead guilty in court and take full responsibility.
