7:30 a.m. – “Anger has taken hold of us,” say the taxis

Stéphane Abeilhou, spokesperson for the National Taxi Union, explains the reasons for the revolt: “We signed the local agreement under duress, on a 2018 rate base, we got one cent per kilometer more in Haute-Garonne. But if we didn’t sign, we were out of agreement and we couldn’t work! » According to him, “more than 600 taxis are approved by Health Insurance, out of a total of 850 in Haute-Garonne”. While the national convention “which defines our working conditions, in particular compulsory shared transport – is “still under negotiation”, it indicates that “our federations have asked to be received by the Ministers (of Health, Transport, Tourism , but also in Matignon). “We are also fighting for those with social insurance. We transport elderly people with small pensions. If we make them pay, they will abandon care. Things are imposed on us without consulting us.”

We wanted a symbolic action, to park at the Capitol without blocking during the morning, but the prefecture refused. We got angry, so we decided to block the airport. The prefecture prefers an economic blockage to a symbolic blockage.

6:20 a.m. – What to expect on tolls?

From midday, the four motorway entrances to Toulouse [A68, A62, A61 et A64, NDLR] will be filtered by taxi drivers. “These filters will only be organized in the direction of Toulouse. In this sense, on each toll, only one lane will be maintained, the others will be blocked. In the other direction, motorists will be able to freely leave Toulouse,” Stéphane Abeilhou said on Sunday. Toulouse News.

6 a.m. – Taxis had to go to the Capitol

Initially, taxis were to demonstrate at Place du Capitole.

“We had initially planned to organize a symbolic gathering at Place du Capitole to send a message to the people of Toulouse. We had submitted our request for parking on the Place du Capitole to the regional prefecture, which denied us access. Instead of the symbolic message, the inter-union finally opted for an economic message,” explains Stéphane Abeilhou.

This is why the taxi drivers’ union decided to block the airport.

5:45 a.m. – Why are taxis demonstrating this Monday in Toulouse?

After two major mobilizations at the end of January 2024, this new action by taxi drivers in Toulouse is organized at the call of the National Taxi Union (UNT) 31, the Autonomous Artisans Taxi Union (SAAT) 31 and the National Federation of Taxi (FNDT).

Here are their demands:

Taxis will plead for the defense of “their social rights”, and will demand respect for the application of the Grandguillaume law which aims to regulate “public transport of people” and the market between taxis, VTC and digital platforms such as Uber and Bolt.

In terms of medical transportation, taxis are still opposed to the obligation of shared patient transportation
