Dieter Gruschwitz passed away. This was announced by ZDF on Monday. The broadcaster’s longtime head of sports was 68 years old.

Dieter Gruschwitz is dead. The longtime head of sports at ZDF died on March 27, 2022 near Bad Tölz, as the broadcaster announced on Monday. Gruschwitz, who was born on January 9, 1954 in Neuwied am Rhein, worked in sports journalism for almost 40 years, including 21 years on ZDF and twelve years as head of sports here.

ZDF editor-in-chief Peter Frey explained: “Dieter Gruschwitz has managed the sports reporting of ZDF for many years with sovereignty and composure. Inside and outside the company he stood for reliability and fairness in a phase of upheaval in which the sports rights market and the perception of sport are changing rapidly have. He was a valued colleague, a fine person and a friend to many of us.”

Dieter Gruschwitz has been honored many times

According to the broadcaster, Dieter Gruschwitz, who worked for the second division until 2017, received numerous awards as ZDF sports director – including the 2006 German television prize for the best soccer World Cup reporting and the Horizont Sportbusiness award for ZDF reporting on the soccer World Cup 2006. The German TV prize was also awarded for reporting on the 2009 World Championships in Athletics.
