The band Rammstein’s tour last year was accompanied by serious allegations surrounding frontman Till Lindemann. At this year’s tour start in Around 200,000 people came to the events in the Flutrinne in Dresden. In addition to the fans, investigators were also on site: the state police and other authorities investigated on the sidelines of the shows on three of the four concert days. The focus of the investigations was not the band or their fans, but their crew.

More than 1,300 employees from over 70 companies were checked, and further checks are to follow in around 400 cases. In addition to the state police, customs, the public order office and the immigration authorities of the city of Dresden were also involved, according to a statement from the main customs office in Dresden. Rammstein in Dresden: Customs controls as the only means against undeclared work

A spokeswoman for the coordinating security company “Ihre Wache” told MDR Sachsen that the checks were neither surprising nor unusual for events of this size. The customs checks are the only way to prevent undeclared work and illegal employment, said the spokeswoman.

“The fact that our inspections were able to be carried out so smoothly and effectively at an event of this magnitude is primarily due to the long-term preparation and good cooperation with everyone involved,” said Heike Wilsdorf from the Dresden main customs office. The fact that several authorities were investigating on site ensured that issues that fell within the area of responsibility of the respective authority could be passed on directly for clarification.
