DFB women: Horst Hrubesch becomes interim national coach – sports

After weeks of uncertainty, the German Football Association (DFB) has settled the interim successor to Martina Voss-Tecklenburg. Horst Hrubesch will initially take over the duties of the national coach of the German women’s national team, who has been on sick leave since the beginning of September. The association announced this on Saturday.

The 72-year-old had already looked after the DFB women from March to November 2018 before Voss-Tecklenburg took over the position. As back then, Thomas Nörenberg will be the assistant coach. Both had recently worked for Hamburger SV. Assistant coach Britta Carlson remains with the team, assistant coach Michael Urbansky moves to the female U section.

The next international match will take place against Wales as part of the Nations League on October 27th in Sinsheim. After two match days, Germany is in second place in group three with three points behind Denmark, ahead of Iceland and Wales. Only the group winner will advance to the final round and can qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games.
