Defeat for 1. FC Cologne, big football evening for 1. FC Kaiserslautern: After a spectacular fight, the Cologne team and coach Steffen Baumgart suffered the next sporting blow. The Bundesliga 17th lost the cup second round game in Kaiserslautern on Tuesday evening 2:3 (0:1) – unlike the 0:6 at RB Leipzig on Saturday, Effzeh fought back from an early deficit this time, but the early exit hits Baumgart and his ailing team Team tough.

Leipzig says goodbye

“We are of course very disappointed,” commented RB sports director Rouven Schröder. “Leipzig recently celebrated incredible successes in the cup. We wanted to build on that this season. But there are days in football when things don’t go well.” Rose said: “For us, a great journey with great experiences is coming to an end. We won the cup twice recently, but unfortunately we won’t be able to do that this time.”
Union’s crisis continues
The badly hit Champions League starter Union Berlin is slipping deeper and deeper into the crisis. Homburg creates the surprise
Southwest regional league team FC Homburg has brought down the next professional club. The team, coached by former Bundesliga professional Danny Schwarz, defeated second division Greuther Fürth 2-1 (1-0) and is in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup for the first time since the 1995/96 season.
Fabian Eisele (32nd) and Phil Harres (83rd) scored for the hosts; after the heavy rain of the past few days, the pitch in the Waldstadion was surprisingly playable. Branimir Hrgota equalized with a dry shot from 20 meters (52′), who were unable to win away from home this season.
HSV wins on penalties
Hamburger SV has reached the round of 16 in the DFB Cup. The second division Krösus won 4-3 on penalties against the lower-class team Arminia Bielefeld. After 90 minutes and extra time the score was 1:1 (1:0). Matheo Raab saved the decisive penalty against Marius Wörl.
Nicklas Shipnoski (11th) scored early for Arminia, who had knocked Bundesliga club VfL Bochum out of the competition in the first round. But HSV equalized through Joker Bakery Jatta (77th) and reached extra time. This started ten minutes late due to a medical emergency in the stands.
Wild game in Unterhaching
Second division soccer team Fortuna Düsseldorf reached the round of 16 of the DFB Cup with a lot of morale and thanks to an outstanding Isak Johannesson. Daniel Thioune’s team eliminated third division team SpVgg Unterhaching in a wild game 6:3 (3:3, 0:1) after extra time in the second round.
Patrick Hobsch gave the former Bundesliga club the lead in the 34th minute in front of 9,000 spectators. In the 55th minute, the goalscorer converted a penalty kick that was his own fault. Fortuna equalized through Felix Klaus (65th) and Johannesson (66th). Simon Skarlatidis (71′) quickly hit back before Johannesson (79′ and 107′) turned the game around again. Christos Tzolis (115th) and Dennis Jastrzembski (117th) increased again. Fortuna, after all, two-time cup winners and currently second in the 2nd league, is now in the round of 16 like last season.
Schalke loses at Millerntor
Cup party in the neighborhood: FC St. Pauli reached the round of 16 of the DFB Cup with an extra shift. Thanks to a significant improvement in performance, the second division table leader defeated Schalke 04 at Millerntor at home with 2:1 (1:1, 0:1) after extra time and inflicted the next setback on the Bundesliga relegated team.
Marcin Kaminski (16th) gave the guests the lead and initially gave the Royal Blues hope for their second success under new coach Karel Geraerts. Three days after Gladbach’s 2-1 win in the Bundesliga game against Heidenheim, the cup duel was already decided before the break. Jordan Siebatcheu with a brace (3rd minute/9th) and Robin Hack (44th) consistently took advantage of Heidenheim’s blatant defensive errors in front of almost 42,000 spectators. Substitute Adrian Beck’s Heidenheim goal (78th) wasn’t enough.
