The one threatened with cancellation The DFB Cup match between 1. FC Saarbrücken and FC Bayern Munich is scheduled to take place as planned.
The German Football Association (DFB) announced this on Wednesday morning after referee Frank Willenborg inspected the pitch. Representatives of the city as owner of the stadium, the German Football Association and the club had an inspection of the condition of the pitch on Tuesday and had already given the green light for kick-off on Wednesday evening (8.45 p.m./ARD and Sky).
After heavy rain, the Saarland championship game against SG Dynamo Dresden last Sunday was canceled during half-time. The DFB pointed out that a short-term cancellation of the cup game would only be possible if, contrary to the weather forecast, there were storms or further heavy rain on Wednesday. FC Bayern traveled to Saarland as planned on Wednesday morning.
For the record cup winner from Munich, a cancellation or postponement would not have been unproblematic given the busy program in the Bundesliga and Champions League. Moving the match to another stadium at such short notice was out of the question.
