The Ropsten testnet on the Ethereum network is ready for the Merge’s “first dress rehearsal” to use the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) mechanism.

The Ropsten testnet is one of many testing grounds for Ethereum clients. It mimics various aspects of Ethereum mainnet, including the use of Ether ( ETH ) in transactions and coding, but changes will not affect the mainnet.
Ropsten is also a test network. Proof of Work Ethereum’s longest-lived (PoW) launched in 2016.

When Ropsten finally made it through his own merge. Beiko said there are still a lot of things developers and node-runners need to prepare before moving on to the Ropsten Merge, with the Beacon Chain having to roll out the latest upgrade. And have to set the mining difficulty called TTD of the PoW side.
Upgrades will come first, followed by TTD, which “should be chosen by June 3rd,” Beiko added.
