Rodman needs to start
Rodman represents the next generation for the USWNT, with her pace and direct play scaring the life out of Portugal after she came on. While Morgan is a living legend and one of the best players in history, playing her as a sole striker limits the way in which America can play, and leads to a more slow and calculated approach.
Andonovski will undoubtedly want to shuffle the pack for the knockout stages, and can’t afford to leave Rodman on the bench for much longer.
Clinical play needed
The one constant in America’s performance was the team’s inability to properly test the Portugal goal, despite enjoying the majority of possession.
Morgan put in a good performance as a sole striker, but she and her team-mates didn’t have the clinical edge needed in close games. Andonovski needs to find the balance between attacking play and caution, and until he gets that right his team will always be there for the taking.
