Tottenham news: Thomas Tuchel refuses to answer Harry Kane question with £85m bid imminent | Football | Sport

Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel is keeping his cards close to his chest. Senior figures from the German giants jetted to London for showdown talks earlier this week, with Tottenham captain Harry Kane at the centre of a long-running transfer saga that could soon come to a head.

Kane’s reluctance to sign a new contract has left Spurs in a tricky situation. With one year remaining, chairman Daniel Levy knows that this summer is his last chance to recoup a transfer fee for the 30-year-old.

Selling the club’s best player to a Premier League rival would be a bitter blow. For that reason, Tottenham are thought to be entertaining the idea of doing business with Bayern Munich.

The Bundesliga heavyweights are believed to be confident of thrashing out a deal, despite leaving London on Monday without an agreement.

A mammoth £85million bid is reportedly on its way to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which would be a new club record for Bayern. But Spurs are thought to want at least £100m for their record goal-scorer, leaving a gap in valuation between the two sides.

On the prospective move, Tuchel said: “I will not comment. We made a clear assessment and clear decisions. We have focused on a few players who can strengthen the squad. The players we want, they absolutely know about it.”

Reports indicate that Spurs are already on the lookout for Kane’s replacement. Nottingham Forest youngster Brennan Johnson and Gent wonderkid Gift Orban are both thought to be under consideration.

Leaving north London to join up with Tuchel may not be the end of Kane’s association with the club, as Tottenham are reportedly intent on including a buy-back clause as part of a deal this summer.
