Apple has apologised for a controversial advert plugging its new iPad following a fierce online backlash.

The one-minute clip shows a collection of artistic objects – including paints, books and musical instruments – being crushed by an industrial press. 

The ‘tasteless’ and ‘insulting’ promo was widely slammed, including by English actor Hugh Grant.

Aboriginal cultural heritage laws scrapped in Western Australia: Premier Roger Cook apologises for ‘stress and confusion’

Western Australia has scrapped new Aboriginal heritage laws implemented only five weeks ago.

Premier Roger Cook acknowledged on Tuesday that the amended Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act ‘went too far’, sparking widespread public outrage.

He admitted that his government’s legislative response was ‘wrong’ and apologised for the ‘stress, confusion and division’ caused in the community.

The new act will be abolished and the 1972 act restored with ‘simple and effective amendments’.
