Real Sociedad are ‘negotiating with ManUnited to sign Donny van de Beek on loan’

Real Sociedad are ‘negotiating with Manchester United to sign Donny van de Beek on loan’ after he admitted he could leave Old Trafford this summer

  • Real Sociedad are ‘negotiating’ a potential loan deal for Donny van de Beek
  • It comes after the Man United midfielder admitted he wanted to leave the club
  • Real Sociedad could also reportedly ‘include an option to buy him for £8million’

Real Sociedad are reportedly ‘negotiating with Manchester United’ to sign Donny van de Beek on loan.

The midfielder scored the winner in Manchester United’s 1-0 pre-season win against Lyon earlier this month in an emotional return to the pitch following what has been a very long injury layoff for The Netherland’s star.

The 26-year-old has struggled with injuries over the past few seasons, notably suffering a horror knee injury in January that kept him out of the side for the second half of the season.

The Dutchman has been clear in the past that he was exploring options away from Old Trafford and according to reports, a move to Spain could be emerging as a viable option for him.

Noticias de Gipuzkoa claim that Real Sociedad are ‘negotiating’ with Erik ten Hag’s side and ‘intend on bringing him to Spain on a loan deal with a purchase option for about £8million.’

After arriving at Manchester United in a £40m transfer from Ajax in 2020, The Netherlands international has made just 60 appearances for the club.

His contract will expire in June 2025 after signing a five-year deal upon his arrival in Manchester.

Van de Beek spent half of the 2021-22 season on loan at Everton, where he would also struggle for game time in Frank Lampard’s side, making just seven league appearances due to a thigh problem.

Mail Sport understands that Van de Beek has been offered to Roma while former Celtic boss Neil Lennon believes that the 26-year-old could benefit from a move to his old club.

Earlier this month, the wantaway midfielder was candid about his future admitting that while he was proud to play for the Red Devils, it was possible that he could leave the football club.

‘For now it is hard to say where my future is,’ he said after the pre-season friendly win.

‘Yes [he could stay], but it’s also a possibility that I move, so everything is open. I’m focussing on getting as fit as possible and pushing on.

‘In football you never know, especially for me. I’ve been linked with so many clubs… but I’m not focusing on that.

‘I’m proud to wear this shirt and I realise that every day. Let’s see what happens.’

For Real Sociedad, Van de Beek could be the perfect option to fill the void left by David Silva, who announced his retirement yesterday after sustaining an ACL injury in pre-season training with the club.

The World Cup winner, who won four Premier League titles with Manchester City, joined the club back in 2020, made 93 appearances for Real since his departure from City.

Yet they will be looking to reinforce their midfield stocks having also lost central midfielder Ander Guevara to Alaves.
