Guardiola, Arteta and Klopp updates incoming

Press conferences from Pep Guardiola, Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp are just about starting.

I feel like the blue card may be mentioned a few times throughout them.

It’s becoming a theme, and rightfully so.

No love from managers for the blue card

It has been pretty obvious from the press conferences we have seen so far that managers are not happy about the idea of a blue card.

It looks like the backlash has done what it was intended to do, for now at least.

It feels similar to the Super League saga in 2021. Outrage stalling the project.

‘I don’t know why a different colour card is going to make a difference’

Postecoglou is not a happy with the blue card proposal…

I struggle to understand why this urgency suddenly to bring in new things. I don’t know if there’s that much wrong with the game.

My issue with the game right now is that VAR has changed football as an experience. I don’t know why a different colour card is going to make a difference. I don’t know about this taking things from other sports. Other sports are trying to make their games faster, we’re bringing in more clutter.

Son and Bissouma back training

Sonny did recovery on Thursday and trained today. Bissouma trained, Lo Celso trained. The only ones still out are Solomon and Sessegnon.

Sonny and Biss they trained well.

That’s all from Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino’s press conference has finished, and I am not surprised he is not a fan of the blue card.

However, he definitely would have collected a few himself, so he is also right there.

Now it’s time for Ange Postecoglou.

Poch believes he would have got a lot of blue cards.

I don’t know the intention to add this blue card. But for sure, a lot, a lot.

No return in sight for Romeo Lavia

He is not training with the team. He is still recovering. Impossible. He is still not on the pitch.

Pochettino on Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher’s midweek performances

It was only a matter of time. Great for Conor and Enzo, also. feel so happy because they deserve to feel this way and feel happy, enjoy playing football. These guys work so hard to perform.

‘My feeling is the blue card is not a good idea’

Difficult to express how I feel about the blue card. Difficult to explain. At the moment, we don’t have much information about that. That is going to create more debate. It is going to be more complicated.

At the moment, my feeling now is it is not a good idea but we will see what happens.

Pochettino wants consistency

The important thing is the 11 players are showing. Little by little, we are recovering players. The way we are training, the way the players behave, we are improving.

It’s about to win next game and get the feelings we got from Aston Villa.

Blue card on hold

Some big news breaking before some of today’s press conferences.

It is going to be interesting to see how the managers react to the news.

Backlash from the public over blue card sin-bin proposals in football have delayed the project, according to reports.

It was announced on Thursday that a blue card – leading to a ten-minute sin-bin – was set to be trialled.

However, proposals from IFAB have now been put on hold.

What a whirlwind of a 24 hours for the blue card proposal.

Revenge time for Spurs?

Ange Postecoglou will shortly be in the hot-seat ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s fixture with Brighton and Hove Albion tomorrow.

Spurs will be boosted by the returns of Son Heung-Min and Yves Bissouma, so are in a stronger position heading into this weekend.

Last time out, Brighton inflicted a painful 4-2 defeat on Postecoglou’s side in December, and they will be out for revenge.

Can Chelsea build on midweek masterclass?

In 30 minutes time Mauricio Pochettino will be answering questions from the press.

After their 3-1 victory at Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Wednesday, can Chelsea use that performance to string some good results together in the league?

We will have to wait until Monday night to find out, as they face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Want more blue card content? Of course you do!

I mentioned the possibility of green cards in an earlier post, and it turns out it’s already been done. I can’t keep up.

We saw the green card introduced at the 2018 CONIFA World Cup – a competition for non-FIFA affiliated international teams – held in London.

The green card was introduced as a concept by tournament sponsors Paddy Power and when it was issued to a player for dissent or diving, the offender had to be substituted immediately.

Read more about other cards that have been introduced, here.

Arsenal’s celebrations following their 3-1 win over Liverpool last weekend caused much controversy and debate.

Curtis Jones has since inferred the Gunners copied the Reds regular celebrations following the victory.

Both sides have had many reasons to celebrate this season, and may have many more to come.

While there may be a blue card coming, there was once a white card.

A video has resurfaced of the first ever white card being shown in a women’s game in Portugal in January 2023.

Referee Catarina Campos brandished the card – shown to recognise and encourage fair play – during a cup clash between Sporting Lisbon and Benfica in Lisbon.

Maybe there will be a green card next, or a purple one. Who knows at this point!

The news of blue cards has caused quite a stir at the back end of this week, and former referees’ boss Keith Hackett has had his say.

Hackett believes football is trying to ‘accommodate weak refereeing’ by potentially introducing sin-bins in football.

Rodri the tactiful foul connoisseur

Manchester City love a tactical foul, Fernandinho did in particular when he was at the club.

His successor Rodri doesn’t mind a yellow either, he has picked up seven this season.

Like the fans of football, I don’t think Rodri will like the idea of blue cards coming into the game.

Roy wouldn’t have been keen on the blue card

I bet Roy Keane is glad the blue card was not a thing in his day.

Although there are no current plans to introduce sin-bins into Premier League football, it would have been interesting to see how many the tough-tackling Irishman would have accrued in his day.

In his Premier League career, Keane was sent off a total of seven times, whilst also picking up 69 yellows.

I know for sure that I would not have wanted to be on the end of a tackle from the former Manchester United captain in his heyday.

Simon Jordan has not minced his words about former Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard’s move to FC Seoul.

Jordan has accused the 31-year-old of completely squandering his talent.

Gary Neville and Roy Keane’s recent comments on whether certain European teams were ‘clean’ during their playing days has started a big conversation.

Mail Sport’s Chief Sports Feature Writer, Riath Al-Samarrai, has chimed in on the subject of doping within football.

This doesn’t look good for Manchester United’s recruitment team.

A graph containing data from Twenty First Group has compared the two-year average ratings of all Premier League players and plotted it against their current nine-month ratings.

Three of their recent acquisitions have been ranked among the Premier League’s 20 biggest under-performers.

Footballing laws are causing confusion again, this time in a different way.

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany has claimed he is struggling to understand the handball law.

Several managers complained about its interpretation to the Premier League and it has caused many debates with certain decisions this season.

The Martin Odegaard incident v Liverpool, sticks out in my mind.

Which player in the Premier League would be the first to get a blue card?

I have heard shouts of Richarlison and Darwin Nunez around the office, all valid candidates.

What players will most likely get a blue card? Comment below.

What do you think?

We want to hear your thoughts on the blue card.

Do you think it is necessary? Are you angry? Do you think people are overeacting?

There are just so many questions on the tip of everyone’s tongues about this.

The face Anthony Taylor is displaying here was exactly how I looked when I read the news.

Tell us what you think in the comments.

Football fans are not happy about this one…

It was revealed yesterday that plans for a blue card are set to be announced as part of 10-minute sin-bin trials by football’s lawmakers.

At a time when VAR is already having problems in the game, manager’s, ex-player’s, and fans alike are, to put it plain and simple, not happy with the news.

Following Jurgen Klopp’s shock announcement last week that he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, the question has been asked if some of their top stars will follow suit.

Former Liverpool star Glen Johnson is concerned that Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah could follow the German out the door in the summer.

Liverpool fans is this something you’re concerned about?

Welcome!
