Michael Barrymore took to social media following his appearance on Thursday’s edition of ITV’s This Morning.

The 71-year-old caused a stir as he took his place on the iconic sofa to discuss his return to the West End as the director of Laurel and Chaplin.

His playful demeanour led some fans to describe the interview as a “car crash” after he mocked the host’s accents and joked he didn’t know who they were.

Nevertheless, many of Michael’s fans were just as excited as he was to be back on mainstream TV.

Following the broadcast, the presenter shared a chirpy clip of himself arriving at the studio with his 1.7 million TikTok followers.

He also posed for a selfie with Craig Doyle and Josie Gibson and added in the caption: “Thank you for having me @This Morning x.”

Thousands of his loyal TikTok fans flocked to the comments to praise him on the interview.

Momba wrote: “Someone get this man a TV show ASAP!! You are highly missed, Michael!!”

Laura added: “It was sooo lovely to see you back on telly, first of many I hope.”

And Sandra gushed: “The doors are opening again Michael about time my friend.”

She said: “Welcome back still to come, he’s a man of many talents and now he’s added West End director… Michael Barrymore.”

Michael then mimicked her voice, repeating: “’Michael Barrymore’ Alison, your accent has changed.

“I wasn’t told these two were on, what the hell is going on? I just walked in and I go, ‘Who are they?’”

Michael then clarified that he did know who Josie and Craig were before also mimicking the Irish host’s accent.

Some viewers took to Twitter to comment on the segment, one user said: “Michael Barrymore on the show is car crash TV #cringe,” and Peach echoed: “Good lord. Michael Barrymore on #thismorning it’s a bit car crash.”
